The Family

Over a period of 150 years the Dighton family have been at the centre of family portraiture. Starting with paintings followed by prints and then into the age of photography. They are unique because they passed the skills down generation after generation.

The theme of the images vary by period and by the artist involved. They include caricatures (Robert), figures (Richard), military scenes (Denis), flowers (Mrs. Dighton), horses (Joshua), family photographs (Richard), Landscapes (William Edward).

We have images of the last 9 generations of the family - capturing how images and clothing have changed over the years.
